Sunne is the Anglo-Saxon name for the Norse Goddess Sunna or Sol -- her name is pronounced 'SOON-e'. She is the personification of the sun's warm radiance and drives a chariot accross the sky driven by two horses named: Alsvid and Arvak.
In Germanic and Anglo-Saxon traditions, the sun is seen as feminine -- with the moon being a male deity (known as Mona or Mani). This is thought to be due to the colder climes of those regions. The sun would thus be seen as a fertile and giving presence, as opposed to the masculine harshness of heat in the Mediterranean traditions.
Hail Sunne!
Your light sustains us. Thank you.
