Ma'at, Goddess of Truth, Balance, Order, she is most often depicted as a woman with wings, or with her symbol – a single white ostrich feather.
It is against that single white ostrich feather that the heart of the deceased is weighed when we die. In the Hall of Judgement, Ma-at holds the scales, and if the heart weighs less than a feather, the deceased goes on to the afterlife. If they have not followed the concept of Maat (if he had lied, cheated or killed) and heart weighs more than a feather, the heart is devoured by Ammut and the soul destroyed.
Ma'at in antiquity was patroness of judges, magistrates and all court officials; the phrase "priest of Ma'at" in inscriptions can be understood as a euphemism for "judge."
